The Happy Engagement Company Ltd was established in 2016 by James Selby.

James is Managing Director and lead consultant of The Happy Engagement Company having previously worked for nearly 20 years at News UK in senior HR roles. In June 1998 he worked in The Sun's advertising department before joining the HR team as a trainer, helping hundreds of staff across the company settle into life at News and give them first class development opportunities.

Come 2008, he became an HR Manager and then Organisational Development Manager, launching the company's first ever graduate scheme, company induction, volunteering programme, recognition scheme and completely relaunching the Long Service Awards. In response to the Phone Hacking Crisis, that resulted in the closure of the News of the World, James was made responsible for Employee Engagement. In this role, he helped its loyal employees become better connected with the company's direction and put trust in its leaders once again. At this time, James was also proud to lead on all employee engagement activity surrounding the London 2012 Olympic Games.

In 2014, he was part of the team to help launch the breast cancer awareness charity, CoppaFeel!'s "Check 'em Tuesday" campaign in The Sun. This campaign has since won prestigious awards and helped save readers lives.

James lives in the middle of Epping Forest with his wife, Number 1 British Soprano, Joanna Forest, who he married in 2016 and makes him smile every day after their own happy engagement and wedding. He is also a very proud Dad of his twin sons, Robin and George, aged 12.
